Dr. Ricardo Chávez studied his undergraduate degree in mechatronic engineering at the Instituto Tecnológico de Ciudad Cuauhtémoc (ITCC). which is part of the National Technological College of Mexico (TecNM), and obtained his master’s and PhD in astrophysics at the National Institute for Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics (INAOE) in Tonantzintla, Mexico. He was a postgraduate fellow at the University of Cambridge, UK. He has been a CONACyT Fellow at the Institute of Radioastronomy and Astrophysics (IRyA) since 2019.

He studies the origen and properties of stellar populations in galaxies near and far using photometric and spectroscopic analysis, and by modeling the spectral energy distribution using stellar population synthesis models. He also studies the history of the evolution of the Universe using a variety of cosmological tracers.
