Students working with me

Osbaldo Sánchez Gárcia

Osbaldo defended his Master Thesis in January (with special mention! well done!!) by analyzing the spectral properties of a massive Jellyfish galaxy from the GASP sample, and has just started his PhD at IRyA. For the moment being, he is focussing on bars formation and characteristics on GASP galaxies, but we have other great plans for him.

Jesus Miguel Jáquez Domínguez

Miguel, after defending the master thesis in November 2019, is now doing his PhD at IRyA, and is working on the creation and analysis of simulated, panchromatic images of star forming regions from hydrodynamical simulations. The goal of his thesis is to understand how observations relate to physical properties, and study possible biases and improve observational recipes.

David Perez Millán

David finished his master at Guanajuato University, with Dr. Hector Bravo, with a thesis on the multi-wavelength properties of galaxies in a local cluster. As a starting project for his PhD he is analyzing the stellar population properties, with a focus on spiral galaxies, from the WINGS and OmegaWINGS surveys.

Omar Ulises Reyes Amador

Ulises is a master student I am co-supervising with Omaira Gonzalez. He is working on the photometric characterization of low luminosity AGNs in local galaxies with high quality images (such as HST). He will try to study the influence of an AGN and of dusty structures at small scales at the center of galaxies on their structural parameters.

Amira Tawfeek

Amira arrived as a DGAPA post-doc in October 2019, from Egypt, and is working on the detection and characterization of stellar bars in cluster galaxies, specifically on the WINGS and OmegaWINGS dataset. She will be working in close collaboration with Bernardo Cervantes and Osbaldo Garcia.

Ingrid Ivetthe Flores Ordoñes

Ingrid is a bachelor student from the Departamento de Ciencias Espaciales of UNAH, in Honduras. She is working with me on the far-infrared characterization of galaxies from the GASP sample, using Herschel data archive, to characterize the content and the properties of dust of galaxies in the sample.

Yoganarasimhan Venkatapaty

Yoga joined the group, as a CONACyT postdoc, in December 2020, and is working on the detection and characterization of tidal and gravitational features in cluster galaxies, to look for possible interaction signs. He is using the WINGS and OmegaWINGS sample and will inspect multi-band images in a semi-automatic way to look for such features.
